IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bruce William
Foster
December 12, 1938 – March 2, 2015
Bruce William Foster died of lung cancer on March 2, 2015, at Hospice House in Rapid City. He was born December 12, 1938, to C.W. (Bill) Foster and Edna (Wullweber) Foster in Los Angeles, CA.
He attended elementary schools in Sepulveda, CA, Huron, Cavour and Virgil, SD, and graduated from Virgil High School in 1956.
In December of 1962, he married Katherine Brandt in Elkton, SD, and put up with the hassle of that decision for 52 years. At that time, he was working for the SD Department of Transportation and Reciprocity (1960 to 1963) after which he began work with Greyhound Bus Lines in Omaha, NE, later moving to Cedar Rapids, IA, and Davenport, IA.
With the arrival of daughter Jacqueline, he decided to go back to school and get his M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling from South Dakota State University in 1967. He worked at Vermillion High School and Springfield State before tackling his Ed.D in Educational Psychology and Guidance and Counseling from USD in 1970. With that in hand, he worked for Badlands Human Service Center and in private practice in Dickinson, ND, until Northeastern Mental Health brought him to Mobridge, SD, where he worked until his partial retirement in 1999. In 1987, he received his private pilot license.
Bruce loved gardening and many other outdoor activities. He often combined camping with hunting or fishing and hanging out with his friends. When the weather got cold he would look for a card game. He was a devoted lifetime member and past president of DTGCA. His warped sense of humor and quick wit will be missed by many of us.
Survivors are his wife, Katherine; his daughter, Jacqueline Foster, and her husband, Jack Hauswirth, and two grandsons, Julian and Colin Davidson, all of New Braunfels, TX; and two cousins, Dwight and Lloyd Wullweber and their families.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, several aunts and uncles, and many dear friends.
Memorials have been established to the Hospice House, Knollwood Heights United Methodist Church, and the National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network, PO Box 114, Curwensville, PA 16833.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 19, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Knollwood Heights United Methodist Church in Rapid City, SD.
