Mike was the eldest of eight children. Born to Bruce and Midge Helms of Faith, SD.

He attended and graduated Faith High School. He traveled to, and worked with his brother Mark, in the oil fields of Wyoming. Mike met and married Corinne Bliss and together they were blessed with three beautiful girls. Carey Ann Helms, Auburn, WA, Chelsey Marie Helms, Auburn, WA, and Cassondra Margaret Hamel, Pacific, WA. All together Mike has three grandchildren: Terry (Chelsey) is 17 years old, Sage (Chelsey) is 15 years old, and Julian (Cassondra) is 7.

Unfortunately, Mike and Corinne later divorced and he then settled in Faith, SD. Mike enjoyed his life and family. He worked for Dave and June Kilby of Faith, SD and loved them greatly.

He lived for hunting, fishing, and prayer. He died in his home on July 6th, 2010. He will be forever missed.

Michael is survived by seven siblings. His two brothers are Mark Helms, Douglas, WY, and Matt Helms, Faith, SD. His five sisters are Shannon (Alan) McGinnis, Faith, SD, Sherri Reder, Rapid City, SD, Stephanie (Jeffrey) Weisbeck, Mesa, AZ, Holly (Mike) Haines, Maurine, SD, Christine (Ken) Guenther, Douglas WY, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents Bruce and Midge Helms.


Mike wished for his ashes to be spread in a favorite fishing hole.

A vigil and rosary will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Faith, SD on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's on Monday, July 12, 2010 at 10:00am.
The family extends an invitation to join them for fellowship and refreshments at the church immediately following the mass.
