C. Ben Ruby, 82, of Newell, South Dakota, died December 23, 2022, at Monument Health Sturgis.

Ben was born on October 24, 1940, to Ruth (Anderson) and Carl Ruby in Perkins County, SD. He attended his first eight grades at Inland Country School, Perkins County and Fish Draw Country School, Butte County. For a short time, Ben attended Agriculture College at Brookings. He loved being on the ranch that his parents, Uncle Jim, and Carrie Michler made successful, homesteading around 1910. He always loved coming to the ranch, which is still in the family, admiring all the pines and cedar trees, that he and his father planted. Digging dinosaur bones at the ranch was one of his passions. Ben and his dad operated Ruby Angus Ranch, selling registered bulls for years.

Ben was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Zeona. His parents were very active in their church and every summer saw Ben attending Bible School there. He was known to stop at the church on many occasions to pray and show respect. Ben was a shy, soft-spoken man, but at any given moment, could crack a dry joke.

He was very generous and kind, and will be missed by all, especially his special friend who helped him so much, Alan Youngberg.
