Carl was born February 24, 1947, in Glenwood, MN, he was one of seven children born to Kenneth and Mable Carlson. Carl graduated from Graceville high school in 1965, joined the United States Air Force in November 1965 as a ground radio operator and was honorably discharged February 1969.
He married the love of his life, Janet, on September 8, 1967, and they spent 52 wonderful years together.
Carl "Chuck' Clarence Carlson, 72, of Piedmont, passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends on September 29, 2019.
He is survived by two brothers, Aldon (Judy) Carlson, Evald (Nancy) Carlson; two sisters, Rosalie (George) Athey, Sharon (Doug) Hausken; spouse, Janet Carlson; two daughters, Shelly Thurlow, Sheila (Matthew) Auger; seven grandchildren, Devin (Ashleigh) Auger, Derren Auger, Kelcy (Joshua) Allestad, Shelby Thurlow, McKenna (Mark) Burkhalter, RJ Auger, and Aaliyah Auger; and four great grandchildren, Caroline Allestad, Adeline Allestad, Brynlee Allestad, and Kallan Auger.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Mable Carlson; and two brothers, Dale (Louann) Carlson and Kenny (Dawn) Carlson.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a funeral service starting at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2019, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Nick Haasch officiating. Committal with military honors will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial for Carl has been established to the American Cancer Society.
