Stan Angle, 89, of Spearfish, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. A longtime Deadwood resident, he will be long remembered for his love of God, music, family, and the many people whose lives he touched.
Stan was born and lived in Pasadena, California, for the first eight years of his life before moving with his family to Washington. Throughout his school years, Stan discovered and nurtured what would become a lifelong love of music.
After graduating from Oak Harbor High School on Whidbey Island in 1954, he received a national music award. He then went on to graduate with a BA in music education from Linfield College, in McMinnville, Oregon, where he remained very active in band, music, and choir.
Feeling a call to enter the ministry, he then enrolled in the Baptist Seminary in Berkeley, California, graduating in 1958, after which he served in the pastoral ministry for eight years.
Still, his love of music persisted, so he then attended California State in San Bernardino, where he got his teaching certificate. Stan then taught general and vocal music in elementary and junior high schools for 25 years, 24 of which were in Deadwood. In addition to teaching, Stan has served as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of the Northern Hills, beginning in 1972. On July 2, 1972, Stan married Tina Schultes.
After encouragement from Tina, family, and friends, Stan recorded an album of gospel music, and did two summer tours of the western U.S. with Tina presenting the gospel through music. The two presented music regularly through the years at various venues and nursing homes in the area.
Upon retirement from teaching, Stan and Tina enjoyed traveling, a highlight being a trip to the Holy Land to walk the literal paths that Jesus walked. Stan is survived by his wife, Tina, of Spearfish; Jeff Schultes, Jacksonville Beach, FL, Vernon Bradford, Cameron, MO, Karla Giron, Colorado Spring, CO, and Darryl Bradford, Blythe, CA, 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and many loving (nieces, nephews, friends).
Though it is difficult to imagine a world without Stan, the memory of his beautiful smile, soft chuckle, and joyous embrace of life and people will live on forever for those who have been fortunate enough to know him.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation to be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9 at First Baptist Church of the Northern Hills in Deadwood. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery in Deadwood.
