Carl was born October 14, 1931, to William and Ella (Helmer) Wendt in Belle Fourche SD.
Growing up, Carl attended country schools in the Belle Fourche and Spearfish areas. He went to work in Belle Fourche at the Vanco Ford Garage as a mechanic, where he met Pauline (Homan) they were married on August 17, 1956, in Nisland SD. They lived in Belle Fourche then moved to Hot Springs where Carl worked for Silverman Ford. He then later worked with the Dept of Transportation of SD for 30 years, he retired as Foreman in 1991, after Pauline retired from Golden West Telecommunication services in Hot Springs, they traveled from South Dakota to Arizona, and California to avoid the cold winters. They lived in their RV at Hart Ranch, and various campgrounds in the Black Hills and Wyoming near their daughters, and volunteered as Camp Host at Custer State Park, and also at the D.C Booth Fish Hatchery in Spearfish. They currently reside in Spearfish.
Carl was a member of the Moose Club. He enjoyed making things with wood , wood working and working in the yard.
Carl Henry Wendt, 84, Spearfish, SD, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital on August 6, 2016.
Carl is survived by his wife Pauline; two daughters, Cindy (Jim) McDill, Custer, SD, and Connie (Randee) Peterson of Spearfish, SD. They have 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; Dusty (Heather) McDill, Custer, SD; Lynn McDill, Denver, CO; and Rebecca (Tyrel) and Connor, Maizy and Parker Owens of Newcastle, WY; Jared (Jenni) and Emily, Ella and Erik Peterson, and granddaughter Breonn Peterson of Spearfish, SD; brothers; Kenny (Mary) Wendt, Belle Fourche, SD; Jack (Carol) Wendt, Denver, CO; Sister; Gladys (George) Babcock of Post Falls, ID; and many, many nieces and nephews.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ella Wendt, and brothers, Donald, Bill, Chris, Fred, and Jerry, sisters Rosie Frick, Anna Bonato, Margie Jepsen, Ellen Rueb and Jessie Franke and Grandson, Jason Paul McDill of Newcastle WY.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD. with Pastor David Baer officiating. Inurnment will be at the Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche, SD.
A memorial has been established to the Spearfish Ambulance Service.
