Carol Ann Aker (Potter), 68, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at her home in Sturgis, SD following a lengthy illness.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 9, from noon to 9 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
The funeral service will be held Monday, May 10, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ed Wyatt officiating. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City.
Carol was born October 28, 1941 at Rapid City, SD. Carol grew up in South Canyon, Rapid City where her grandparents, Harold and Mary Potter, raised her and her brother Robert. She attended the Doty School and school in Wasta. Carol went on to marry Donald W Kost and later, Jim L Aker. With Jim, she worked in the timber industry logging and saw milling. In 1979, she retired and continued to work at MPI, later known as SCI, for 11 years. She then worked at Lynn's Dakotamart in Sturgis.
She will be remembered as a devoted caregiver to her family and her love of crocheting and reading. Carol's secret to life was loving and caring for her family; putting family first was a daily devotion.
She is survived by her son, Elmer Aker, Riverton, KS; daughters,Valorie Jorensen, Midland, TX and Deborah Hopper, Sturgis, SD; brother, Robert Hirchert, Green River, WY; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Mary (Potter) Gowin.
