IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol
Arends
April 27, 1937 – July 27, 2010
Carol Jean Arends Surrounded by her loving family, Carol Jean Arends passed on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at her home at the age of 73. Carol was the devoted wife of Norman, and loving mother of Joni, Cheryl Thevenet (Jim), and Barry (Laura), precious grandmother of Tyler and Nicole Arends and Andrew and Daniel Thevenet and great-grandmother of Chloe Marie Arends. Her brothers, Ron Jarvis (Francy), and Gary Jarvis, and brothers-in-law Clark (Janice) and Don (Liz) survive her and many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends whom she loved dearly. She was born in Alcester, South Dakota in 1937 and attended school in Sturgis. Her parents, Lloyd and Della Jarvis, preceded her in death. Norman and Carol were married for 56 years. They moved to San Francisco in 1954 and to Marin in 1957. Carol was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She loved attending the Women of Faith conferences. Norman and Carol were active in Marriage Encounter. Carol had a profound sense of fairness and justice. She was a generous listener and possessed a gift of writing special and thoughtful notes to family and friends. For those diagnosed with cancer, Carol was gracious and gentle in her love and support. One of her favorite holidays was the Fourth of July with a tradition of playing marching music, inviting friends and family over to watch the Larkspur-Corte Madera Parade, and having a barbeque afterwards. She was a 49er fan and the family held season tickets for many years. Since 1962, she was the Administrating Partner of Morris Roofing Company, based in San Rafael. Carol was an avid world traveler. She especially enjoyed traveling with Norman and their high school classmates. They traveled together on paddleboat cruises on the large rivers in the eastern United States. Their last trip was along the barrier islands off South Carolina. She loved working with Labrador retrievers and raised four litters with her son, Barry. She enjoyed going to the ocean, clam digging, and hiking around Lake Lagunitas with family and the dogs. She was a great baker and cook. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice By The Bay, 17 E. Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur, CA 94939 or Guide Dogs for the Blind, P. O. Box 3950, San Rafael, CA 94912-3950.
