Carol E. Linngren died in hospice care on Sunday, February 9, 2020, in Rapid City, SD, due to complications from heart and lung failure. She was 87.
Carol was born on April 12, 1932, in Mobridge, SD, to her parents, James Young and Dorothy (Decker) Young. She graduated from Huron High School and married Robert Porter in 1950. The couple moved to Mobridge, SD, where Robert worked as a salesman for the Singer Machine Company and Carol worked as a receptionist at the Spiry Clinic. In 1967, the couple divorced and Carol moved to Jamestown, ND. She married Arvid Linngren in 1968. The couple moved to Warner, SD, in 1969, and moved to Milbank, SD, in 1974. Arvid passed away in March of 1976. Carol then moved to Aberdeen, SD, where she lived with her daughter, Jeanne and son-in-law, Lenny Evangelisto for several years. While in Aberdeen, Carol worked at the Dakota Midland Hospital and then St. Luke's Hospital in the business office as an administrative worker. She retired in 1993 at the age of 62, and moved to Spearfish, SD, where she enjoyed spending time with her wonderful companion of 23 years, Dale Edlund, who passed away in May of 2019.
Carol enjoyed local travel and had an appreciation for nature and beautiful scenery. She loved her years living in the beautiful Black Hills. She was appreciated by everyone who knew her for her lighthearted nature, kindness, caring spirit, and humor.
She is survived by her brother, Gerald Young of Sioux Falls, SD; her daughter, Jeanne Maher of Spearfish, SD; her son, Scott Porter of Omaha, NE; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, James Porter of Jamestown, SD, and Mark Porter of Omaha, NE.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 13, 2020, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD, with Pastor Mark Schutz officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Carol's life.
