Obituary

Carol was born November 20, 1942, in Sturgis, SD, to Kennard and Hazel (Arneson) Hart. She grew up in Sturgis. Carol married James "Edsell" Roe in Sturgis in 1960.

She lived, laughed, and loved. Carol was tender with her listening ear, gracious with her giving heart, and loving with unconditional love. She did not judge others, but accepted them for who they were. She was fierce when her family was in trouble. She was herself with everyone.

Carol loved to play "In The Mood" on her piano and do leather work, which she did beautifully. She loved her roses, flower garden, and birds. Traditions meant a lot to her, and above all else, she was sassy, determined (you noticed that we did not say stubborn), giving, loving, and forgiving. She picked her battles to fight and helped others find their way. She prayed for and loved her family and friends. She fretted over her grandchildren and adored her great-grandchildren.

When Carol was blessed with her grandchildren, she said she could have skipped her kids and gone straight to her grandchildren. She said the same thing with the great-grandchildren.

Carol Jean Roe, 73, Rapid City, died Saturday, November 19, 2016, at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, James "Edsell" Roe; daughter, Sharie (Brad) Nelson; daughter, Hazel (Randy) Jackson; son, Jim (Dawn) Roe; special adopted daughter, Carmen Flockhart; sister, Gleva Stafford; brothers, Ed (Tawny) Hart and Fred Hart; thirteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bernie Hart; sister, Helen Blare; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Pauline and Jake Block; and two brothers-in-law, Monty Roe and Thomas Wendell Roe.

A memorial service will be held Monday, November 28, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating.
