Carol Janet Taggart, 83, passed away on September 22, 2020, and was reunited with her beloved husband.
Carol was born on February 26, 1937 to Oswald and Anna (Thompson) Olson in Irene, SD. She graduated from Gayville High School in 1955. After graduation, she worked at the state hospital as a candy striper. On May 17, 1957, she married Darrell Taggart. They fled to the Black Hills for their honeymoon with the backseat full of Carols shoes. They decided to stay for the winter, not realizing they would call it home for 56 years, during which time they had 5 children.
Carol dedicated her life to raising and caring for her children and grandchildren. She was an avid bowler, and enjoyed playing bingo and cards with her family and close friends. When she wasn't busy canning and making jams, she was taking great pride in her flowers and gardens. You could say she had a bit of a green thumb.
Carol is survived by her two daughters, Sheryl (Kenneth) of Laurel, MT, and Carol of Deadwood, SD; three sons, Laryl of Harrisburg, NE, Jarrell (Tracy) of Rapid City, SD, and Richard (Darla) of Sundance, WY; a sister, Audrey of Sioux Falls, SD; a brother, Roger of Duncan, OK; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; her parents; her in-laws; two sisters, Beverly and Cheryl Ruby; four brothers, (infant) Burnell, Jerry, Darrell, and Jerome; and daughter-in-law, Sonia.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Chaplain Randy Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Lawn Cemetery in Lead, SD.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent in the memory of Carol to the Hospice of the Northern Hills.
