Obituary

Carole Emma (Bolash) Zoll, formerly of Struthers, OH, passed away peacefully Friday morning, June 21, 2019, at her home in Summerset.
Carole was born January 31, 1939, in Struthers, the daughter of Stephen and Ruth Bolash, Sr., and was one of nine children. She was a 1956 graduate of Struthers High School.
She married Robert E. Zoll on November 7, 1957, and traveled around the country with him while he served in the U.S. Navy. They had two children, Robert and JoAnn.
The family moved from Youngstown, OH, to Norfolk, VA, then to Toledo, OH, and on to several locations in California, including San Pedro, Calabasas, Thousand Oaks, and Paso Robles. Following the death of her husband, she moved back to Struthers and made her home with her mother until her death in 2008. She also lived in Sevierville, TN, for a few years during that time. Following her mother's death, she and her partner, David Cook, moved to Sturgis, SD, to be near her daughter, JoAnn Kinney.
Over the years, she held a variety of jobs, including running a painting business and a newspaper distributorship for the L.A. Times with her husband. She also worked at a variety of other places, including Fisher Space Pens, Dollywood, her brother's Sub Shop in downtown Youngstown, Cellular One, and the Hometown Journal.
Carole was an avid sports fan, but her true passion was hockey. She became active when her son began playing hockey in 1969, and never stopped following the sport. To say she was very involved with the Steelhounds Booster Club and the Rapid City Rush Booster Club would be an understatement. She served as president for the Rush Booster Club for several years. Carole knew every player and every statistic, and she befriended many of the hockey players who became her extended family. Carole lived and breathed hockey and found much joy in being actively involved.
Carole also belonged to Sisters at Heart, a bereavement support group, where she cherished the members like sisters.
Carole loved to travel and had visited all but three states, Alaska, Hawaii, and Rhode Island. Alaska was at the top of her bucket list. She also traveled across Canada with her husband.
Throughout her life, Carole was a positive person who loved life. To know Carole was to love her, and she loved with her whole heart. She never ended a phone call or a visit without saying "I love you." She loved her family deeply and was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Carole made and kept friends like they were precious gems and was always there if anyone needed a helping hand. She was generous to a fault and loved making other people happy. Carole loved to socialize and gather with family and friends, and she always had a ready smile and a boisterous laugh.
Carole was a strong and independent woman who endured the loss of her husband, her daughter, her parents, and her partner, but she persevered and always tried to remain positive. Despite many ailments, she continued to push herself to be active and remain a positive influence in the lives of so many people.
A very special light has gone out in the world without her presence and she will be missed by many people.
In addition to her parents, Stephen and Ruth Bolash, Sr., she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Zoll; her daughter, JoAnn Kinney; two brothers, Stephen Bolash, Jr., and Bill Bolash; a brother-in-law, Richard Parker; a sister-in-law, Judith Bolash; and her partner, David Cook.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Robert (Kathleen) Zoll of Colorado Springs, CO; a son-in-law, Rod Kinney of Sturgis, SD; four sisters, Donna Parker of Port Orange, FL, Ruth (Richard) Shipley of Lowellville, Margie Ellis of Struthers, and Nancy Johngrass of Struthers; two brothers, Donald (Kathleen) Bolash of Youngstown ,and James (Debbie) Bolash of Lehigh Acres, FL; a sister-in-law, Linda Bolash of Youngstown; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and many friends that she considered family.
