Caroline was born Caroline Marie Voigt in Mitchell, SD, on April 5, 1939, to Theodore and Anna Voigt. She grew up and attended schools in Mitchell, Woonsocket, and Wessington Springs, SD. After graduating from high school in 1957, she moved to Steilacoom, WA, to help care for her grandmother. She later lived and worked for many years in Chicago before relocating to Sioux Falls, SD, and later to Sturgis, SD.
Caroline loved her family and many friends in Sturgis and around the country that she always took care to keep in touch with as long as it was possible for her. Caroline loved her Christian life, her friends in Christ at Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church in Black Hawk, SD, especially Pastor Randy Sturzenbecher who was a great comfort to her in her final days.
Caroline M. Sherburne, 77, passed away October 22, 2016, in Sturgis, SD.
She is survived by her brothers, Edward (Suki) Voigt and Terence M. (Gloria) Voigt, both of Sioux Falls, SD; Vernon D. (Cheryl) Voigt of Pierre, SD; sisters, Judy (Roger) Black of Sioux Falls, SD, and Robin (Brent) Cox, of Sturgis, SD; two God children: niece, Caroline Voigt and nephew, Christopher Severson; as well as many other nieces and nephews that she loved dearly; and special friend, D. Clyde Faber of Sturgis, SD.
Caroline was preceded in death by her mother and father; a brother, Theodore H. Voigt; a sister, Karen (Arnold) Westlake; and a brother, August H. Voigt.
Caroline donated her body to the University of South Dakota Medical School. She requested no funeral be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of memorial gifts, the family requests donations are sent to the American Cancer Society and the American Lung Association.
