Casper "Cap" was born January 4, 1927, at Linton, ND, to Rudolf and Philippina (Rohich) Heidrich. He attended country school near Strasburg, ND, and worked on the family farm.
In 1942, he moved to Vale and in 1944, he moved to Nisland where he worked in the beet fields.
On March 4, 1948, he married Clara Evelyn Einfalt at Belle Fourche, SD.
Cap worked as a hired man until 1949 and spent two winters at Homestake in Lead.
He was drafted in 1952 and served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps and was discharged as a corporal.
He returned to farming until 1974, when they sold out and Cap went to work for the Newell School District as the Nisland school janitor for 18 years. He drove a school bus for 31 years.
Cap was a member of the Nisland Post 33 American Legion.
Casper J. "Cap" Heidrich, 90, Nisland, died at his home on Monday, September 18, 2017.
Survivors include his wife, Clara; son, Bill (Sandy) Heidrich; daughters, Nancy Reid and Patsy Martin; brother, Harry (Jessie) Heidrich; sister, Jean Kryzsko; and three grandchildren, Lyle Hanson, Cody (Cassie) Heidrich, and Clay Heidrich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three brothers, and three sisters.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2017, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 25, 2017, at the Nisland Independent Community Church in Nisland. Burial will follow, with military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial to the Nisland Volunteer Fire Department.
