Cecil Lloyd Johnson, 70, Hot Springs, died Thursday, December 3, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Graveside rites will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with Pastor Joe Story officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Sturgis Veteran's honor guard. Family and friends may gather at Kinkade Funeral Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery.
Cecil was born August 5, 1939, at Modesto, CA, to George and Marjorie (Sisson) Johnson. He grew up in California. Cecil was a truck driver for many years. He married Virginia Lopez in Nevada in 1958. He then entered the service and served in the US Army from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1961.
Cecil worked at a dairy then resumed trucking. Prior to his retirement, he ran a taxi service to transport railroad workers.
He was a member of the 7th Day Adventist Church in Hot Springs and the American Legion in Edgemont. He also volunteered for the Red Cross for many years.
Survivors include two daughters, Bernadine (Richard) Guenthner and Tammy Pierce, all of Edgemont; one brother, Curt Johnson, Edgemont; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sons, one brother, and one sister.
