IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cedric Martin
Goodman
March 17, 1941 – February 27, 2019
Cedric "Sid" M. Goodman, Sr., was born March 17, 1941, at Fort Yates, ND, to Daniel V. Goodman, Sr., and Sophia Long Bull-Goodman. Sid, as most friends knew him, made the pilgrimage to Igloo Army Depot with his parents, his aunt, Sarah Long Bull, and three older brothers (Vincent, Dan Jr., and Herb) where his father served as a Law Enforcement Officer. Sid graduated from Provo High School in 1959, where he had an incredible high school basketball career, alongside his brothers, Dan and Herb. Together they helped Provo High School to numerous successful seasons. He furthered his education by attending Black Hills State University and Oglala Sioux Tribal College.
Cedric married Leola Black Horse on September 5, 1969, and this year they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. After relocating to Pine Ridge, SD, in 1973, he served in various public servant positions within the exterior boundaries of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Although not a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, Cedric made Pine Ridge home and became a supporter of the Pine Ridge Thorpes.
Cedric, 77, passed away on February 27, 2019, at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Fort Meade, SD.
Cedric "Sid" is survived by his wife, Leola, of Pine Ridge; daughters, Marie (Susan) and Danielle Goodman, of Pine Ridge, and Charlene (Nick) of Denby; and son, Cedric, Jr., of Pine Ridge. He was a proud papa of numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Sophia; brothers, Vincent, Dan, and Herb; niece, Mary; nephews, Sonny and Jon; and one grandchild.
