Charles was born to Nannette & Ben Brackett at home in Banner, Arkansas, on September 3, 1939. He attended school in Modesto, California.

Charles and Ursula married October 13, 1958, 59 years ago. They welcomed four children into their home; Christine Coppola of Oregon, Sherrie VanVleet of Rapid City, John Brackett of Rapid City, and Susie Johnson of Dallas.

Charles raised and raced greyhounds for 25 years, his favorite life's work. He belonged to the Rapid City Elks Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and remodeling homes. Charles lived in the Rapid City community many years.

Charles "Ed" Brackett passed away June 23, 2017, at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Fort Meade, with his loving wife, Ursula, by his side.

He is survived by his wife, Ursula; four of their children; three sons-in-law; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters; five brothers; and numerous relatives.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2017, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, with visitation one hour prior at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
