Charles Bracy Hall, 73, of Piedmont, SD, was born on August 2, 1946, in Mcleansboro, IL, to Charles E. Hall and Florence Elizabeth (Bracy) Hall of Illinois. Charles spent his childhood in Mcleansboro and later moved to Jefferson City after the passing of his father when Charles was very young. He lived with his grandmother while his mother attended college in order to provide for them while they lived in Jefferson City, MO.
He was enrolled in Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, MO, when he was 16 years old. While in Lexington, he met the love of his life, Karen Kaye Kessler. Upon graduation and an additional 2 years of college at Wentworth Military Academy, he joined the United States Army as a commissioned officer during a time of war.
On September 21, 1968, at Grace Lutheran Church in Lexington, Charles, then a Lieutenant in the United States Army, married Karen. Not long after their marriage, Charles began a tour in South Vietnam and Karen returned to Lexington. Upon his return to the United States, he was assigned duty in Fort Leonard Wood, MO, where he served until his honorable discharge in March of 1974, earning a Bronze star for his service.
After military service, the Halls moved to the St. Louis area, where Charles worked in the Security Department at Six Flags over Mid-America and Karen worked in an employment office in Belleville, IL. It was at this point that the Halls united with Pacific Baptist Church where they became active in Youth and Music.
Charles, having been born into a family with strong faith and will for service to God and ministry, surrendered to the Gospel Ministry himself. Such a long heritage of service by many of his uncles, specifically Dr. Herrick Hall and Dr. James Hall, became his mentors. One of his fondest memories was the opportunity to deliver a sermon in one of the largest Southern Baptist Churches in Washington, DC alongside one of his uncles.
The couple moved to Union, MO, where Charles served as Pastor of the Leslie Baptist Church. Charles and Karen served six churches in several states during their 40 years. Those among them are Pacific Baptist Church, Belleville, IL; Leslie Baptist Church, Union, MO; La Plata First Baptist Church, La Plata, MO; Piedmont Baptist Church, Piedmont, SD; and Siletz Baptist Church, Siletz, OR.
During his time in the Black Hills of South Dakota as pastor of Piedmont Baptist Church, he served as interim director of the Black Hills Area Baptist Association. He found added joy in children's and youth ministry as director of summer camps. Additionally, Charles served on an uncounted number of committees, mission work, and church plants throughout his career. All with the support and love from his children and wife.
Rev. Charles Bracy Hall, 73, Piedmont, SD, died November 25, 2019, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
He is survived by his daughter, Leslie Anne Hall Leipold and her husband, John, also of the home in Piedmont; his son, Stephen Patrick and his wife, Angie, of Longview, WA; grandchildren, Mikayla Elizabeth Schmitz - US Army, Fort Sam Houston, TX, Alexandra Kaye Schmitz of Piedmont, Tarina Claire Nye, Lecea Grace Hall, Devin Patrick Hall, and Brynlea Josephine Hall, all of Longview WA; many loved ones; and many, many friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Karen, who passed away June 29, 2019, at their home in Piedmont, SD.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2019, at Calvary Baptist Church in Rapid City with Pastor/Dr. Josh Bonner officiating.
Committal services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2019, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
