Charles Herbert Jacobs, 85, Newell, died Saturday, December 20, 2008, at Belle Fourche Health Care Center. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Clinton, Iowa.

Charles was born in Clayton, Iowa on July 23, 1923, to Freeman and Pauline (Pesch) Jacobs. He attended school in Clayton and went to ND when he was 16 years old. The following year he came to the Black Hills area and worked on a ranch for the Kammerers. In 1943 he was injured while rodeoing. Charlie later started an auction house importing and selling items for England. He then came to Newell to help his son Jerry as a saddle maker.

He is survived by three sons Jerry, of Belle Fourche; Charles Jr, of Washington; and Tom of Reno, NV; and two daughters, Pauline Fenton of Ozark, Mo.; and Judy Stranski of Buffalo, Wy., and one sister Edna Jacobs of Clinton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
