Chad was born on January 3, 1922, near Box Elder to Ernest and Edna (Powers) Plambeck. He grew up in the area, and moved with his mother and siblings to Idaho at the age of 15, after the death of his father. They lived there for a short time, but moved back to South Dakota after the death of his mother. He joined the Civil Service Conservation Corps and served for one year, until he joined the US Navy and served for about two years. After his honorable discharge, he married the love of his life, Vivian "Butch" Blanche Ulrich on August 31, 1946, in Sturgis. He went to work for McMahon Feed shortly after they were married and was working there for about ten years. Chad then went to work driving truck for about four years, until he decided to do some odd jobs before he started working in carpentry in the early 1960's. He enjoyed carpentry and worked at it until he semi-retired at the age of 62, and from then on he did odd carpentry jobs, such as cabinetry. He and Butch kept busy maintaining their rental houses in the hills; at one time they owned as many as ten. When they weren't working at a paying job, they were building their house from daylight to dark, on their own 80 acres together. They just finished it in time for the Christmas of 1974. They would log firewood for the house from Vale to the hills.
Chad and Butch loved bowling, traveling, and country music.
He is survived by his sons, Joseph (Marcia) and Gene (Rindi); grandchildren, Chad, Brad, Vicky, Nikki, and Brandy Joe; great-grandchildren, Trevor, Hudsyn, and Hadley; sister, "Sissy" (Joe) Ramirez; sister-in-law, Glorene (George), and their son, Tom; and many nieces and nephews.
Chad is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Butch; brothers, George and Dick; and sisters, Clara and Mildred.
A memorial has been established to the Disabled American Veterans.
