Obituary

Charles "Bill" Milton Fields, 93, Sturgis, passed away on November 26, 2014, at the Belle Fourche Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Herbert Cleveland officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with family present.

Bill was born on November 30, 1920, in Curtis, Oklahoma. He was the son of Eva (Weiszbrod) and Ralph Washington Fields, the second of nine children. On May 29, 1941, Bill was united in marriage to Trula Marcella Horn at Woodward, Oklahoma. To this union, five children were born, an infant son (deceased), Charlene (David) Schmidt, Brandon, SD, Billy (Nancy) Fields, Sturgis, SD, Robert (Evon) Fields, Great Falls, MT, and Bernard (Vicky) Fields, Sturgis, SD.

Bill and Trula moved to South Dakota in December 1946, to operate a ranch south of Dupree. South Dakota was their home for the remainder of his life. They lived in Dupree, Eagle Butte, Vale, Sturgis, and Belle Fourche. His life spanned the "Dirty 30's", landing on the moon, 9/11, and ultra-small computers storing infinite information. Three things were constant in his life, his family, gardening, and harmonicas. Bill was a caring and sharing person always offering his large garden produce to his friends, family, and neighbors. His last job was writing grants, and he did that until computers came about.

Also surviving are his wife, Trula, Belle Fourche; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob (Helen) Fields, British Columbia, CA, and Ronald (Eva Mae) Fields, Washington, AR; sister, Verla (Hollis) Barker, Lincoln, AR; brothers-in-law, Mike (Jean) Horn, Oregon, and John (Koula) Horn, Athens, Greece; and sister-in-law, Patsy Horn, George West, Texas.

Preceding him in death are his parents; infant son; brother, Leon Fields; sisters, Irene Starr, Betty Richardson, and Doris Starr.

A memorial has been established.
