Charles Benjamin
Muhm
October 4, 1932 – May 18, 2019
Charles "Chuck" Benjamin Muhm was born to Gordon E. and Martha (Kneebone) Muhm on October 4, 1932. He was the third eldest of seven children.
He married his sweetheart and neighbor on June 1, 1957. To this union, their daughter DeLora was born.
Charles was a corporal in the U.S. Army and he was in the Korean War (Forgotten War). He received an honorable discharge from the Army in July 24, 1953. Charles received two medals from his service in the Army. The two medals that he received were United Nations Service Medal (Korean Service Medal) and National Defense Service Medal (Good Conduct Medal).
His favorite job of all was working as a telegrapher for Chicago North Western and Dakota Minnesota and Eastern (DM&E).
In his spare time Charles loved to watch the news, football, golf, America's Funniest Home Videos, Bloopers and Practical Jokes, all of the Bob Hope comedy specials, and the Caddyshack movies. He loved to play pranks on people and tell funny jokes. He also did leather artwork for checkbook covers. Charles loved to grill hamburgers on the grill outside and he would also dig a hole in the ground to cook beef until it was tender like they do for luaus in Hawaii. He loved to golf and play Gin Rummy (and other card games). He was a member of the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard for several years.
Charles, 86, Sturgis, died Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Fort Meade.
Charles is survived by his daughter, DeLora; brother, Skip (Bev) Muhm; sisters, Arlene (Muhm) Hatch and Judy Muhm; fur grandbaby, Harley (cat); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delores J. Muhm; Infant Muhm; his parents Gordon and Martha Muhm; sisters, Margaret (Muhm) Kaiser and Elsie R. (Muhm) Helmer; brother-in-law, Vern Helmer; brother, David Muhm; pets: numerous dogs, cats, goldfish, and one seahorse. His favorite pets were as follows, Roxy (dog), Midnight (cat), and Zia (sugar glider).
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with Father Timothy Castor officiating.
Inurnment, with military honors, will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2019, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established to the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard.
