Obituary

Charles Orlando Olson of Hermosa, South Dakota, was born March 22, 1947, in Oakes, North Dakota, to Alben Eli Olson and Arlet Marion Johnson. He died peacefully at his own home after a battle with esophageal cancer Sunday, July 19, 2015. He married Judy Kopplin November 20, 1970, in
Tacoma, Washington. They were blessed with two children, Aliesha Todd and Ashley (Leanne) Olson. They have one grandchild, Kyle Todd (Jenn).

Charlie loved to fish with his family. You could find him making fishing poles and teaching others to do the same. He loved the outdoors and loved hunting with his son and brothers-in-law every October.

Charlie traveled about the country with his wife's jobs taking him from Tacoma, Washington, to Saint Cloud, Minnesota, Ketchikan, Alaska, Yakima, Washington, Sitka, Alaska, Soldotna, Alaska, Pierre, South Dakota, and last to Anchorage, Alaska. This gave Charlie many opportunities to have a diverse career in carpentry, chef work, and custodial work. He especially enjoyed his last job as a custodian at a grade school in Anchorage. He enjoyed the 400 plus children and the teachers. He wanted their environment to be clean, tidy, and safe.

He loved his family and wanted to be sealed to them for time and all eternity which was done in the Seattle Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has been a member of the Mt. Rushmore Ward here in Rapid City since November 2013 when he moved here from Alaska.

Charlie is survived by his wife; two children; one grandchild; three sisters, Arlemae Vernon, Gloria Rogers, and Virginia Potts; four brothers-in-law, Gary Potts, Douglas Lepinski, Jerry Kopplin, and Darrel Kopplin; two sisters-in-law, Vicki Kopplin and Ann Kopplin; one uncle, Merlie Johnson; four aunts, Alta Johnson, Florence Johnson, Irene Johnson, and Annabell Claeys; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Almira Rogers, Pearl Lepinski, and an infant sister; brother, Alben Olson; sister-in-law, Sandra Olson; two brothers-in-law, Hugh Vernon and Milo Rogers; three uncles, Gordon Johnson, Orlando Johnson, and Francis Claeys; and one niece, Christine Rogers.
