Charles Arthur Wennberg was born October 19, 1928, in Sturgis to Ruth (Gralapp) and Harry Wennberg. He lived his entire life on the home place in Whitewood Valley. He attended grade school at Hathaway School and graduated from Sturgis High School. Charles also attended Brooking State College from 1948 to 1950.

He was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1951. Charles served in Korea during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge in 1953, he returned to Whitewood and worked the family farm/ranch. In 1970, he married Shirley Nonnast.

Charles was active in the American Legion, 4-H, and particularly enjoyed being a Boy Scout Leader. He was very involved in conservation and served on several conservation boards. He was a member of the Whitewood Presbyterian Church.

Charles, 88, Spearfish and formerly of Whitewood, died Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.     He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Paula (Bill Summers); granddaughter, Raylene (Jacob Presley); and great-granddaughter, Ilea.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial has been established to the Whitewood Presbyterian Church.
