IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Cheryl Ann
Mcelwain
June 30, 1963 – August 28, 2021
Cheryl Ann McElwain, 58, Sturgis, SD, passed away at home on Saturday, August 28, 2021.
Cheryl was born June 30, 1963, in Deadwood, SD, to Charles and Elaine (Stephens) Green. She grew up in Sturgis, SD.
Cheryl worked several jobs throughout her life, eventually finding her calling working in healthcare, taking care of the elderly or working with the mentally disabled. She became a CNA and a certified Med Tech.
Drawing inspiration from her mother, Elaine Green, who worked for Black Hill's Special Services, Cheryl worked for them for a number of years herself.
She was employed with Northern Hill's Training Center in Spearfish, SD, at the time of her passing.
Cheryl didn't need much to be happy. She was humble and sincere, sharing her endless compassion and empathy to anyone she met. She cherished spending time with her children and grand-children and loved cruising around town. In her free time, you'd often find her at the VFW in Sturgis, or as she liked to refer to it as, "her church", relaxing with her friends, whom she cared for deeply. Endless amounts of smiles and laughter were guaranteed to be seen and heard almost immediately upon her entering a room.
Cheryl radiated a warm and wholesome presence and she had this special quality about her, that made it impossible to not want to be around. Cheryl was an amazing listener and empathetic by nature, always lending an ear or offering her shoulder for one to cry on, no matter the time or day.
Cheryl touched countless lives over the years.
She was a one-of-a-kind soul with a heart of pure gold, and left such a positive and resonating impression on every individual that was fortunate enough to meet her.
The world lost a truly beautiful soul and she will be missed greatly.
Cheryl is survived by her children, Ashley McElwain, and Ryan McElwain; her three brothers, Larry Wallace (Lila), Sturgis, SD, Richard Wallace (Debbie), Gillette, WY, Douglas Green (Melissa), Sturgis, SD; and her two sisters, Diane Meisel, Belle Fourche, SD, and Karen Helms (Scott), Box Elder, SD; four grandkids: Illiana, Justus, Mason, and Logan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Elaine Green; an infant son, Christopher Green; and two brothers, Robert Wallace, and Kenneth Green; her grandparents; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, a nephew; and her brother-in-law, Mark Meisel.
Committal services will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 13, 2021, at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
