Chester "Sonnie" Neven Carlson, 58, Rapid City, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, October 5, 2014, at the School Auditorium in Osage, WY.

Sonnie was born on May 18, 1956, to Duane and Elda (Germundson) Carlson in Browning, MT. He attended school in Upton, WY up to the ninth grade. He joined the Army for a few years and when he came home, he worked in many fields including mechanic, oilfield work, carpentry, and working on cooling towers. He loved to tinker and could fix about anything. But when he fixed something it had to be done right. He also liked to go to yard sales and second hand stores. His favorite place to go was Harbor Freight and everybody knew him there. He was a very good story teller and could be both believable and unbelievable.

Sonnie is survived by his mother, Elda M. Carlson; daughter, Cassie Carlson; brothers, Mike (Jan) Carlson, Colony, WY, Gary (Cheri) Carlson, Hitchcock, SD, Jerald Carlson, Newcastle, WY, Ricky (Sequina) Hoff, Anchorage, AK, and Ivan Hoff, Seattle, WA; sisters, Dianne (Richard) Corey, Sioux Falls, Zena (Loren) Hieb, Loveland, CO, Kim (Lloyd) Thomas, Redding, CA, Vickie Solmonson, Newcastle, WY, and Marilyn (Russ) Bushaw, Federal Way, WA; sister-in-law, Bobbi Carlson; his loyal caretaker and niece, Irene Reub, Rapid City; and many other nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Duane; and brothers, Richard and George Carlson.
