Chet was born April 21, 1932, in Mission, SD, to Wilhelm "William" and Emma (Lindhorst) Hartmann. He graduated from Todd County High School
in 1951. He went to work for Dean Rounds Construction until his enlistment into the United States Marine Corp in 1952. He served 1 year 3 months in Korea as a forward observer. He had said his best experience in the marines was witnessing the above ground testing of nuclear weapons. He was honorably discharged in 1955.

He returned to work for Dean Rounds and Summit Construction for nearly 30 years. He also worked as a civilian employee at Ellsworth Air Force Base for 23 years.

Chet enjoyed gardening, bowling, and most of all, fishing on the river with his wonderful friends, Chuck (deceased) and Sue Berg, and their family. He also loved beers with his friends at the VFW and American Legion.

Chester Duane "Chet" Hartmann, 82, Spearfish and formerly of Rapid City, died Monday, August 25, 2014, at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare
Center in Spearfish.

Chet is survived by six children, Dean, Traverse City, MI, Scott (Kathy), Wylie, TX, Kimm (Gary) Luxton, Spearfish, SD, Robin (Ken) Ward, Sioux Falls, SD, Tina (Ron) Bunker, Rapid City, SD, and Alan (Ann) Piedmont, SD; grandchildren, Heather, R. John, Brittney, Kayla, Miranda, Amanda, Carissa, Tasha, and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Pierson, and Dustin; and one brother, Dale (Myrna) Hartmann, Pierre, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Deloris Zuber; and one brother, Eugene Hartmann.
