Chester T. Smalley, 91, Sturgis, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at his residence near Sturgis.

Services will be at a later date in Ashland, Ohio.

Chester Talbot Smalley was born June 10, 1915, in Ashland County, Ohio, to John and Vivian (Talbot) Smalley. He married Eunice W. Schaeffer on Oct. 3, 1940, in Ashland, Ohio.

Chester lived and worked all but the last year of his life in Ashland. He moved to Sturgis to live with his son.

Survivors include his two sons, Gary Smalley, Cleveland, Ohio and Don Smalley and his wife, Susan, Sturgis; one niece, Eleanor Comisford, Mansfield, Ohio; three grandchildren, Robin Barden, Belle Fourche, Dan Smalley, Nederland, Colo., Kayla Johnson and her husband, Craig, Sturgis; four great-grandchildren, Patrick Smalley, Nicole Barden, Shelby Barden, Greysen Johnson; and one great-great-grandson, Triton.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a grandson.
