Christina Dawn (Bruse) Harter was born on September 24, 1971, in Sturgis, SD. Throughout her childhood, Chris had the opportunity to travel to many exciting places around the world. One of her favorite childhood memories was having a pet monkey, Sheba. She attended Sturgis Brown High School and then went on to Western Dakota Technical Institute.

While attending college Chris met and fell in love with Rick Harter. Following many years together, Rick finally asked her to marry him while she was in the kitchen. The two were married on May 10, 2003. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Tyler and Jennie. Chris always said her children were her life's purpose.

Chris lived a life for God. She was a true follower of Christ in every sense of the word. Chris served others in everything she did.  She was always in-tune with what other people needed and was the first to provide a helping hand. Even in her most difficult times, Chris loved and cared for others in a way only she could. She was never one to complain and always managed to see the best in life. Her favorite thing to do was get lost in the kitchen baking for others. She also enjoyed crafting, playing games, spending time with family, and celebrating everything life had to offer.

Christina "Chris" Dawn Harter (49) of Rapid City, SD, joined her heavenly Father and gained her wings on Monday, June 28, 2021, at home surrounded by her family.

Survivors that were blessed with their time with Chris include her husband, Rick Harter of Rapid City, SD; son, Tyler Harter of Wood, SD; daughter, Jennie Harter of Rapid City, SD; father, Donald Kost of Rapid City, SD; mother-in-law, LaVonne Harter  of Witten, SD; sister, Robbin (Glen) Spring of Union Center, SD; brother, Loren (Donna) Bruse of Sturgis, SD; sister, Ann (Jerome) Klein of Gillette, WY; sister-in-law, Sherry (Shane) Ryno of Gillette, WY; brother-in-law, Shawn Harter of Witten, SD; brother-in-law, Dan (Renee) Harter of Minatare, NE; many nieces and nephews and so many others that Chris loved and cared for as her own.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sandra Kost; and father-in-law, Dennis Harter.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Fountain Springs Church (West Location). In honor of Chris' love for baking, a dessert reception will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Chris' honor; contributions can be mailed to The Harter Family at 4906 Butte Circle, Rapid City, SD 57703.
