Clarence F. "Jack" Blomberg, 90, Gillette, WY, died Thursday, September 18, 2008, at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 26, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Chaplain Bill Zandri officiating. Inurnment with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Jack was born March 9, 1918, at Sorum, SD, to Ernest and Bessie (Hallen) Blomberg. He grew up in Sorum and graduated from High School. In 1941, he attended the Ft. Robinson, NE, Cavalry School. He traveled to Burma, India, and worked on the Stillwell road with pack mules and horses. Following his honorable discharge from the US Army, he worked as the Postmaster in Bixby, SD. He later ranched and was a farrier in Perkins County. Jack loved horses and made custom saddles. Jack moved to Whitewood in 1965 and in 1970, moved to Isle, MN. He retired in 1991 and moved to Gillette where he lived until 2003.
Jack was a member of the VFW and the American Quarter Horse Association.
Survivors include two sons, Alan Blomberg, Newell, SD, and Chad (Vonnie) Blomberg, Anoka, MN; one daughter, Marilyn Peery, Nevada, MO; one brother, Lester Blomberg, Rapid City, SD; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Willis Blomberg.
A memorial has been established to the VFW.
