April 6, 1923 – June 15, 2010
Clarence "Buster" Shinabarger, 87, of Ipswich and formerly of Sturgis, SD, died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at his residence in Ipswich.
Visitation is Sunday from noon to 9:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 21, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Fr. Tom Campbell leading the service. Burial, with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Clarence was born April 6, 1923, in Swans Ville, MN, to Warren and Lena (Schwandt) Shinabarger. He attended school in Burton, MN, through the eighth grade. His family then moved to Bison, SD, where he attended school for only four months of his ninth grade year when he was called to serve the US Army from 1941 through 1946. He took a nine month break and then joined the Air Force from 1946 to 1949.
Clarence was united in marriage to Marilyn Nelson on September 3, 1953, in Terry Gulch, SD. They made their home in Lead, SD, where he became a Volunteer Fire Fighter while working at Twin City Fruit and later at Texaco. They then relocated to Deadwood where he owned and operated the Standard Station.
Clarence enjoyed dancing, playing cards, coffee with friends, and spending time with family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his three sons, Doug (Julie) Shinabarger of Ipswich, Dennis (Cathy) Shinabarger of Cocoa, FL, and Rick Shinabarger of Hermosa, SD; two daughters, Diane (John) Huettl of Ipswich and Robynn (Ryan) Konsor of Groton, SD; two brothers, Raymond (Diana) Shinabarger of Buffalo, SD, and Floyd Shinabarger of Sturgis; one sister, Gladys Nelson of Sturgis; 23 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn; one brother, Donald; and one sister, Eleanor.
