Cliff Johnson was born March 1, 1916, in Colfax, WI, to Alfred and Ruby (Hilson) Johnson. He served in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific for 3 ½ years during WWII, and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
Cliff married Jacqueline Mallory in Sturgis in 1949. He worked underground at the Homestake mine for 32 years.
Cliff was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Whitewood, the V.F.W., Masonic Lodge, Naja Shrine Temple, and the Whitewood Senior Center.
Clifford, 96, Whitewood, passed away Monday, October 15, 2012, at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Fort Meade.
In addition to his wife, Jackie, he is survived by a daughter, Claire (Danny) O'Neill, Spearfish; son, Scott (Sharon) Johnson, Whitewood; three grandchildren, Jordan (Calie) LeDuc, Story, WY, Stacey (Steven) Lust, Aberdeen, SD, Collin (Amber) Johnson, North Pole, AK, where he is serving in the Army; twin great-grandchildren, Carter and Regan Lust; and his sister-in-law, Jerry Hardy, Whitewood.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
Memorials have been established to the Whitewood Presbyterian Church and Hospice of the Northern Hills.
