Connie was born in Wilton, ND, on December 31, 1925. She was the eldest of three daughters of Conrad Winger and Lillian (Baker) Winger. The family moved from Wilton to Rapid City around 1928. Connie was raised by her mother and B.F. "Shorty" Mutchler. She went to grade school in Rapid City and graduated high school from New Underwood in 1944. She attended Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish immediately following high school. She taught at Red Top School and Haley School in rural Meade County.
She married Hugh Reichert on June 14, 1947, at Rapid City. Connie lived in and was active in the Hereford community. She was a member of the sewing circle, the church board, the election board, and an information gatherer for numerous U.S. Censuses. She was an important part of the family ranch, taking the lead at the lambing barn and keeping track of the books.
Connie was a wonderful cook and a top-notch Christmas cookie maker.
Connie, 93, of Hereford, died Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at Spearfish Canyon Healthcare Center.
Connie is survived by her sister, June Hitson; three sons, Bruce Reichert of Box Elder, Ross (Jimmi DeWolfe) Reichert of Hereford, and William "Bill" (Wanda) Reichert of Sturgis; four grandchildren, Jessie (Zach) Vallot, Lorena Reichert, Colton Reichert, and Jacob (Brittni) Reichert; and two great-grandchildren, Zoey and Parker Vallot.
She was preceded in death by her parents and step-parent; husband; and sister, Violet Teeter.
Memorials have been established for the Hereford Community Hall and the Hereford Volunteer Fire Department.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 4, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday November 5, 2019, at First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Rev. Paul Henschen and Pastor Harold Delbridge officiating. Burial will follow at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
