Curtis W. Clark, Jr., age 90, of Spearfish, passed away at his home on Friday, August 16, 2019.
He was born September 12, 1928, in Hazelton, ND, to Curtis W. and Sarrah (Smith) Clark, Sr. He grew up on his parent's farm and attended grade school in Camp Crook, SD, and high school in Buffalo, SD.
He served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean war for 2 years, and was honorably discharged in 1953. He was united in marriage to Betty Raffelson on November 22, 1953, in Ludlow, SD.
Curtis worked in the oil fields in Montana, then had the opportunity to work for the State of South Dakota for the Department of Transportation in Sturgis, SD, where he worked in highway maintenance for the next 35 years, retiring as a foreman.
Curtis enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and being outdoors scouting trees to get a load of firewood. He cherished his extended family, the Jensen family in Ralph, SD, where he helped with farming and any other project that goes along with ranch life.
He married Ramona Anderson on July 17, 2015. They enjoyed living in Billings, MT, and Spearfish, SD. Curtis and Ramona just celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary.
Curtis was a kind and generous man, a loyal friend, and a wonderful father and husband. He was dearly loved and he will be missed.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Ramona; children, Dana (Karla) Clark, Longmont, CO, Shari (Dave) Green, Lead, SD, Lori (Neil) Engle, Spearfish, SD, and Linda (Joe) Johnston, Fredericksburg, VA; stepdaughters, Dolly (Larry) Quick, Tucson, AZ, and Sharon (Mark) Hedstrom, Billings, MT; stepson, Butch Anderson, Fort Sumner, NM; sister, Gladys Johnston, Prineville, OR; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty; and siblings, Laura Fladmoe, Susan Nitschke, Ileane Verhulst, John Clark, Alice O'Byrne, Tom Clark, and Phyllis Matson.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2019, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Pastor Kris Garlick officiating. Inurnment, with military honors, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
