Obituary

Curtiss Albert Weisz, 61, Gillette, WY, died Tuesday, July 07, 2009, at the Ft. Meade VA Hospital.

Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2009 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Burial follows with military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Curt was born April 14, 1948 at Hot Springs, SD, to Albert and Agnes (Kane) Weisz. He attended grade school in Hot Springs and graduated from Provo High School in Provo, SD in 1966. Curtiss attended SDSU briefly before being drafted by the US Army. He was in the army from 1967 to 1971, during which time he served in Vietnam and Germany. After his return to the states he held several jobs in Montana and South Dakota, including logging, gold mining, working at a feedlot and for the Fall River County Highway Department.

Curt met Linda Flyte in 1973 in Hot Springs, SD. They were married in Casper, WY on January 19,1977 and had one daughter, Julie.

While in Casper, Curt worked as a machinist for Drilco. In 1982, the family moved to Williston, ND where Curt worked for Basin Machine and Steel, Inc. In 1987, they moved to Gillette, WY where Curt worked for EMS for 22 years.

Curt was well liked and had a great sense of humor. He loved reading and fishing. He was an avid sports fan and was always the one to organize football and basketball pools at work. He was a lifelong Cubs fan. He got to see his first game at Wrigley Field in April of this year when friends from work took him to Chicago.

Curt was a lifetime member of the Hot Springs VFW and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Linda Weisz, Gillette; daughter Julie Weisz, Gillette; brothers, Lowell Weisz, Hot Springs, Martin (Karen) Weisz, Sacremento, CA; sister Ida Merrill, Hot Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step father, Frank Tobin.

A memorial has been established.
