Cyrus Willard Wright, 68, Rapid City, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 5th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with the family present at 6:00pm.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Donny Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard.
Cyrus was born November 22, 1942, at Hyannis, NE, to James and Maude (Davis) Wright. He grew up in Hyannis and graduated from Hyannis High School. Cyrus served in Vietnam in the US Army from 1964 until his honorable discharge in 1966.
He returned to Hyannis where he married Louise Joanne Steggall in 1967. Cyrus and Joanne lived in Hyannis until 1972 when they moved to Wyoming. They moved back to Nebraska before moving to South Dakota in 1985.
Cyrus worked in many fields throughout the years. He was a carpenter, a mechanic, a musician, a police officer, and a heavy equipment operator. There was no job he couldn't handle.
Cyrus was a member of the Catholic Church, the VFW and the Hermosa Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Wright, Rapid City; two sons, Brian Wright, Springfield, SD, and Kevin Wright, Rapid City; one daughter, Brenda (Mitch) Northrup, Rapid City; one brother, Jim Wright, Hyannis, NE; two sisters, Therldine Williams, Pocahontas, IA, and Sharlene Jenkins, Ansley, NE; and ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and his father-in-law.
A memorial has been established to the Hermosa Volunteer Fire Department.
