Dagny Johanna Burt, 91, Spearfish and formerly of Buffalo, died Friday, January 21, 2011, at Burr's Tender Care Assisted Living in Spearfish.
Visitation will be noon until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at the UCC Congregational Church in Buffalo, SD, with Pastor Tom Martin officiating. Burial will follow at the Buffalo Cemetery.
Dagny was born May 28, 1919, on her parents' homestead ranch south of Buffalo, SD, to Hans and Dina (Holgersen) Davidson. Her early childhood was in the time of the horse and buggy. She attended country school in the Jumpoff area southwest of Buffalo. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church and graduated in 1936 from the Buffalo High School. She graduated from Black Hills Normal in 1938 with an elementary education degree.
At the age of 20, she married Clarence "Pat" Burt on December 26, 1939, in Baker, MT. They lived their married life in Harding County.
Dagny ranched from 1939 until 2010. She taught school for one year in Redig and the Brengle Ranch and two years at the Grazing Association School. She was the Harding County Auditor, Deputy Auditor, Treasurer and Deputy county treasurer for 40 years.
She enjoyed her card clubs, the senior citizens center, family, and friends. She attended as many of her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sports events as possible.
Dagny was a member of the Harding County Senior Citizens and Royal Neighbors of America. She attended the Newell Evangelical Church whenever possible.
Survivors include her daughter, Diana (Chuck Sr.) Davis, Buffalo; grandchildren, Darann Davis and special friend, Travis Jewett, Lantry, SD, Chuck Jr. (Polly) Davis, Baker, MT; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helga Gilbert, Spearfish, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Dina; an infant brother, Harold; her husband, Pat; and one great-granddaughter, Mary Jo Davis.
A memorial has been established to the Harding County Senior Citizens.
