Dale Hubert Imsland is safe in the everlasting arms of our Lord God after a lengthy illness. Dale passed away at the SD Veteran's Home in Hot Springs on Wednesday, June 24, 2009.

Visitation and services will be at 11:00 a.m., June 26, 2009, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Vicar Greg Lehr officiating. Burial with military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery.

Dale was born September 20, 1929, in Faith, SD, in the bunk house at the JP Jensen farm. He graduated from Faith High School in 1949. Skip day for the senior class was a trip to the Black Hills. On that historic day, Dale came home with his first car, an old coupe, named "Lizzie".

During the Korean Conflict, Dale served in the Air Force. Upon discharge, Dale attended diesel school in Los Angeles and returned to Faith to manage the Mobil Service Station. Dale received an opportunity to attend VW mechanic school. This training served him well in his lifelong vocation of working in the auto mechanic industry in Rapid City and California. After retirement, he enjoyed his jobs delivering flowers and seeing the smiles; and driving ambulance part-time. Dale was a wonderful storyteller and had a phenomenal memory.

In 2004, Dale moved to Pierre, SD, to be near family. He moved to the SD Veteran's home in 2006.

Survivors include his sisters, Carol Kamppi, Meridian, ID, and Gloria (Vernon) Bump, Pierre, SD. He is also survived by six nieces and nephews, seven great nieces and nephews, and four great great nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Helen Gardetto, San Mateo, CA.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Torjus and Eva (Mehlberg) Imsland; great nephew, Tyler Hepper; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Kamppi.

The family would like to thank the SD Veteran's Home staff for their special care and excellent treatment given to Dale.

A memorial has been established to the Michael J. Fitzmaurice South Dakota Veteran's Home in Hot Springs.
