Dale Lee Johnson, 66, Vale, SD, died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Sturgis Regional Hospital.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Pastor Henrique Fleming officiating.

A memorial has been established to the Hospice of the Northern Hills.

Dale was born July 31, 1947 at Deadwood to Kenneth B. and Donna (Roth) Johnson of northern Meade County. He was raised on the ranch north of Bear Butte and went to Cottonwood Country School and Sturgis Brown High School where he excelled in track and graduated with honors. He received a degree in Animal Science from SDSU then returned to partner with his father on the ranch. Dale worked on the ranch for 38 years before retiring.

Dale married Effie Harman on September, 1972 and raised two sons, Brett A. and Corey A. Johnson.

Dale was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife Effie Johnson; sons Brett and Corey Johnson; grandsons, Callen Kenneth and Layne Alan Johnson; his mother Donna Johnson, brother, Carl Johnson; sister Susan Heibult; and many nieces and nephews.
