Dale L. Morman, 82, Sturgis, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Dale was born on April 2, 1927 in Crofton, Nebraska to Henry and Agnes Morman.

He entered the United States Army in 1945. In 1948 he joined the South Dakota National Guard and was called into active duty with the 196th Infantry Regiment during the Korean War.

Upon discharge, he returned to South Dakota to complete his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Juris Doctor Degree from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

Following graduation he moved to Aberdeen, South Dakota. There he met and married Mary Ann Quinn. He served as State's Attorney of Stanley County and relocated to Sturgis where he went into law practice with Percy Helm. He became Senior Partner of Morman, Smit, Shepard and Hughes and eventually established the Morman Law Firm where he actively practiced law until his death.

He was the recipient of a 50-year service award from the American Bar Association, member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and VFW. He also held other various offices in several organizations throughout his life.

He is survived by his two daughters, Patricia Ashley, Sturgis and Anne Morman, Rapid City; son, Greg (Stacy) Morman, Rapid City; two brothers, Ralph Morman and Earl Morman, both of Yankton; one sister, Ethel Sorensen, also of Yankton; beloved friend, Leann Johnson, Rapid City; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian Morman and brother, Howard Morman.

Visitation and Rosary will be Monday, May 25 at 7pm at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 1pm at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis. Father Arnold Kari will officiate.

Burial with full military honors will be held following the service at Black Hills National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the Friedreich's Ataxia Foundation.
