Obituary

Dale Verlin Olson, 92, Sturgis died Tuesday, August 18, 2026. He was born May 8, 1934 to Robert and Helen (Fenner) Olson in New Underwood, SD.

He loved his wife Dorothy (Harwood) Olson of 70 years. They met at a country dance in New Underwood, SD and after dating for a couple of years they were married on May 14, 1956 n Rapid City, SD. Right after they were married, Dale was drafted in the US Army where he trained as a mechanic. They were stationed at Fort Polk, LA and then transferred to Camp Roberts in California. After Dale was discharged from the Army, he and Dorothy lived in New Underwood, where Dale did mechanic work for his dad. They later moved to Sturgis, where he worked as a mechanic and built his own shop called D&D motors.

Dale and Dorothy loved traveling and made a point to go to all 50 states. Dale also loved to fish and he could usually be found on a riverbank with his fishing pole. He also had a love of playing cribbage with his nephew Tim and his friends.

Dale is survived by his loving wife Dorothy, his sister Faye Vollmer, brother-in-law Boyd Harwood, nephews; Steve (Deb) Harwoood, Don (Kay) Harwood, Russell Harwood, Tim (Christi) Harwood, and Randy (Sherry) Vollmer, nieces; JoAnn (Duane) Wood, Judy (Rich) Weisz, and Karla Koplen, and many great- nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen Olson, in-laws, Andrew and Karen Harwood, sister Janet (Olson) Harwood, brother-in-law, Larry Vollmer, brother-in-law, Richard Harwood, nephews, Mark Harwood and Rodney Vollmer.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 23 from 1:00pm until 3:00 pm at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Celebration of Life will be 10:00 am, Monday, August 24, at the Sturgis United Methodist Church in Sturgis. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
