Dale L. Rossow, 75, of Whitewood, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 24, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Reverend Willard Olsen officiating. Burial will follow at the Whitewood cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 23, 2012, from noon to 9:00 PM at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis
Dale was born July 1, 1936, in Sturgis, SD, to Louis and DeEtte Rossow and was raised on the family homestead in Whitewood Valley. After graduating from high school in Lead, he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Roswell, NM, as a radio repairman. After an accident at home, he was honorably discharged.
Dale was married to Karen Westberg on January 4, 1959, at the Whitewood Lutheran Church, the last ones married at the old Lutheran Church. They had five children together.
He lived most of his life in Whitewood, where he worked for Whitewood Post and Pole, and later as a custom cabinet maker. Dale enjoyed the farming he did to feed the family and would sell the extra to the local farmer's market. As time passed, the farming turned into gardening flowers and tomatoes in a greenhouse, which was a favorite activity of his. He also enjoyed taking his children on a yearly fishing trip to Watertown when they were younger.
He is a former member of the Moose Lodge in Belle Fourche and enjoyed visiting the High Plains Western Heritage Center in Spearfish.
Dale is survived by his children, Kalina Petersen, Gillette, WY, Bill (Myrna) Rossow, Sturgis, SD, Kay Rossow, Silver City, MT, Gaye (Scott) Rossow, Cameron, MT, and Tim (Michelle) Rossow, MT; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sister, Averil (Gene) Yuill, Whitewood; his faithful dog, Max; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
