Obituary

Friends say an Onslow County man who died while riding a motorcycle in South Dakota was checking items off his bucket list at the time.
Dale Shull, 65, of Sneads Ferry was riding a 2010 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic motorcycle east on U.S. 212 in Butte county, 27 miles East of Newell, South Dakota when he lost control of the bike, and went into a ditch
He'd been traveling the country on his motorcycle, surprising family members and making a few big stops along the way.
He had visited Yellowstone National Park already and was on his way to the Grand Canyon when he crashed.
He was riding Big Red — his name for his bike — at the time of the crash.
Shull was known as a regular comedian to his friends, pulling from real-life experiences, he claimed, said Lauren Fagan, who met Shull a decade before when she was bartending at Rick's Restaurant and Sports Bar in Sneads Ferry.
His humor wasn't always clean, Fagan said, but it was guaranteed to make those around him laugh.
Dale was always respectful, he'd dial it back when women or children were around, Bryant said, saying "beep" in lieu of the curse word in their presence.
Dale was also an excellent dart thrower and took many others under his wing..
Lo-re-Lei's is hosting a dart tournament tonight, and friends of Shull's are invited to come out to raise a glass in his honor beginning at 7:30 p.m. There may be tears, but there will also be laughter, Beani Bryant said.
He wouldn't have wanted them to miserable, she added.
He is survived by a son
