Obituary

Dallas James Tinnell, 84, Sturgis, died, Friday, December 12, 2014.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, December 18, 2014, at Whitewood Presbyterian Church with Pastor Steve Agan officiating.

Dallas was born July 27, 1930, in Pender Nebraska to Frank and Emma (Spotted Eagle) Tinnell. He grew up on the family farm and attended school thru the 8th grade in Valentine, NE. Expanding his knowledge and learning was important and he never stopped throughout his lifetime.

Dallas moved to the Deadwood area in 1944 where he started cutting and hauling posts, he also worked in construction before starting to work at Bald Mt. Mining Co. for 11 years. He then worked at Homestake Mining Co. for 28 years before being seriously hurt in a mining accident upon which he retired in 1992. During this time he was president of the Local #7744 Steel Workers Union from, 1977-1985. Dallas married the love of his life Darline Janas on September 12, 1968.

Dallas was a hard worker and very proud of his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working whith horses. Dallas was and excellent gardener and always shared the bounties of his effort with friends, loved ones and food shelters.

Just mention a card game and he was in! He loved the weekly poker games at the Hide-a-Way in Whitewood. Seeing the extended family of friends from poker was always a highlight of his week.

Dallas is survived by his wife, Darline, Whitewood; daughter, Maralea (Dennis) Schatz, Williston, ND; four sons, Rock (Beaner) Reman, Whitewood, Randy (Julie) Tinnell, Whitewood, Rick (Jolene) Tinnell, Lead, and Clay (Kali) Greer, SC; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Tinnell; granddaughter, Samantha Tinnell; sister, Joan Stalder; niece, Kela Stalder; and brother-in-law, Leon Stalder.
