Danny was born May 11, 1950, in Sturgis, SD, the son of Bill and Dorothy (Chaney) Hayes. He graduated from Sturgis High School in 1969. Danny started his career in EMS in 1971 and graduated from South West Oklahoma City Community College with a Masters in EMS Training. He ended his career as a Paramedic and was the SD Director of EMS.

Through the years, Danny served as the SD EMT Association Training Officer, the SD EMT Association President, and served on the SD Public Safety Communications Council and the DOT Division of Planning and Engineering. He worked as a flight paramedic for St. Luke's Careflight in Aberdeen and the Aberdeen Fire Department, as a paramedic for the Sturgis Ambulance Service, and as a training specialist for the SD EMS in Rapid City. Danny retired as the Director of the EMS for the state of South Dakota.

Danny enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He will be remembered for his dedication and devotion to helping others and his love for life and family. Danny was always the life of the party and was always making people laugh. Danny will continue to help others through tissue donation.

Daniel Robert Hayes, 68, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the University of Colorado Hospital. He was the husband of Sandi (Droppers) Hayes and they shared 47 years together.

He is survived by his wife, Sandi; his daughter, Danelle Horst; two sons, Shannon (Carissa) and Danny; his grandchildren, Timothy, MaKayla, Miranda, Brenton (Kelsey), Collin, Molli, Emma, Mason, Owen, Avery, Kennidi, Kailey, and Makenzie; great-grandchildren, Anna Jo, Payten, and expecting two more this fall; siblings, Gloria, Barb (Oscar), and Jerry (Minnie); and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his parents.

A memorial has been established.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Believers Fellowship Church in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Believers Fellowship Church in Sturgis with Pastor John Williamson officiating.
