Daniel Patrick O'Connor Jr., 68, died September 26, 2010 at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center.

Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Chaplain Ralph Vencill officiating. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard.

A memorial has been established to the PTSD Support Group at Fort Meade.

Daniel was born February, 12, 1942 in Rock Springs, WY to Daniel and Ruth (Heaston) O'Connor. He grew up in Omaha, NE and entered the United States Marine Corps in February of 1960. Daniel honorably served his country in the Vietnam era for 8 ½ years until wounded and medically retired. He married Janice Guy March 27, 1971. They had five children.

Survivors include wife Janice, of Sturgis, SD, son Michael (Fiona Seymour) O'Connor and granddaughters Ciara and Leah of Enniskeane, Ireland, daughter Debra (Jeff) Shepard and granddaughter Kathryne of Sturgis, SD, daughter Michelle (Joshua) Coffield and grandson Kevin of Belle Fourche, SD, son Aaron (Rachel) O'Connor and granddaughters Kimberlee, Elizabeth and Haylee of Sturgis, SD, son Thomas (Grace) O'Connor of Belle Fourch, SD; brother Tim (Judy) O'Connor of Oceanside, CA, step-sister Johnna Hayes of Rio Rancho, NM, and various nieces and nephews.

Daniel was preceded in death by parents, two brothers, Michael O'Connor and Ronald O'Connor, step-brother Ken Rozic, and two sisters-in-law Susan (Green) O'Connor and Donna O'Connor.
