Daniel A. Proffitt was born on December 10, 1949, to Donald and Winnie Proffitt in Lafayette, Indiana. He was the youngest of four siblings, two sisters, Gloria and Patty and one brother, Jim.

He graduated from school in Battle Ground, Indiana. Dan served in the US Marines and the US Air Force. He was overseas in the Philippines until his honorable discharge in 1974.

Dan was married to Shauna in Rapid City, South Dakota. They had two children, Stacy and Joe. He was a grandfather to two girls, Daisy and Sky.

He worked as a heavy-duty mechanic most of his life.

Dan passed away suddenly from a rare form of disease on September 3, 2024.

Cremation has taken place, and services will be held at 11:30 AM, October 7, 2024, at Black Hills National Cemetery outside of Sturgis, SD.
