Obituary

Dan was born on December 24, 1948 in Sparta, Missouri to Claud and Vineta (Finley) Haslip. He grew up in Bremerton, Washington and graduated from High School in Redmond, WA in 1967. He entered the USAF in 1969 and after a medical discharge became a general contractor in California. He married Nyla Martini on April 30, 1971 in Escalon, CA. In 1980 he moved his contracting business to Sheridan, WY, where he was also employed by RENEW & the VA Medical Center. After several years, he moved to Sturgis, SD, where he was employed at Ft. Meade Veterans Hospital in Rehab Medicine.

In May 1985 he married Lisa Holcomb in Sheridan, WY. He graduated from Black Hills State University in 1986 with a degree in Education Technology. In 1996 he earned masters degrees in Counseling and Human Resource Development from SDSU, and a Master Addiction Counselor and Criminal Justice Specialist from National Association of Forensic Counselors. He became a level III South Dakota Certified Chemical Dependency Counselor. Dan became Clinical Director of Timberline Treatment Center located at the Custer Correctional Center and also worked at the Newcastle Correction Facility. He had a small private practice designing behavioral management treatment for drug and alcohol programs. Dan was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and rock climbing, riding his motorcycle, photography and gardening. His family and friends will remember him for his gentle ways, his keen wit and his compassion for others. He touched so many lives. He was devoted to his wife, Lisa, and of all his many accomplishments, he was most proud of his family.

Survivors include his wife,his 3 son's,3 aunts and uncles, one niece, one nephew, 10 cousins and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

A memorial has been established to benefit Timberline Treatment Center in Spearfish. The funds will be used to help a young client receive treatment for his or her addiction. Memorials may be directed to Connie Kiplinger; Timberline Treatment Center, 2910 Fourth Ave., Spearfish, SD, 57783.
