Dan was born May 11, 1954, in Sturgis, SD, to Roy and Mildred (Ellefson) VanSickle. He grew up in the Castle Rock area, graduating from Newell High School. He met and later married the love of his life, Cheryl, on October 24, 1973. Dan liked team roping, hunting, riding horses, and especially music, playing guitar and singing for the Travelin Band. He drove UPS trucks for 16 years, a job he loved getting to meet many new people. He had a quick and sometimes inappropriate sense of humor.
Dan was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather, raising 3 strong women and making each of his grandchildren feel like they were his favorite. His sudden passing has left a void that will never be filled.
Dan Ray VanSickle, 65, Spearfish, passed away unexpectedly following surgery, June 10, 2019, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Cheryl, Spearfish; three daughters, Kim Jensen, Rapid City, Jamie VanSickle, Des Moines, IA, and Dani Adams, Lander, WY; grandchildren, Tayler, Trevor, Tate, Elisabeth, Brody, Gbomi, Jumi, Onami, Owen, and Sylvia; brothers, Jim VanSickle, Long Pine, NE, Bob VanSickle, Newell, and Larry VanSickle, Sturgis; and sisters, Kerry Cessna, Georgetown, IL, Vicki Wolff, Newell, and Kristi Stiles, Hot Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
At his request, a celebration of his life will be Thursday, June 13, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Spearfish Park.
A memorial has been established in Dan's name for his family.
