Obituary

Darby Jean (Helms) Larralde, 53, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at her Newcastle residence. Darby was born July 28, 1960 in Hot Springs, South Dakota to Dean and Gwen Helms. The family then moved to Newcastle where she grew up and graduated high school. She was a sister to LA Helms who was killed in an electrical fire at his home in 2012 and an aunt of Mike and Joseph Helms. Her First marriage was to Wayne Vickers of Newcastle and together they had a son, JW, and a daughter, Jamie. Her second marriage was to Joe Larralde of Newcastle. Together they had one son, Jesse. They owned and operated Lone Wolf Construction Inc. until their separation in 2012. After the divorce she continued the business up until her death. Darby cherished every moment that she got to spend with her kids. She loved to hunt and fish, especially in the Black Hills as well as take a few trips to Deadwood here and there. Her favorite song was "Fishin in the Dark" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Painting homes was her true talent and was a big part of her residential construction business. Whenever a paint brush was in her hand, a switch turned on and there was no stopping her. She also started a small side business called Black Hills Antler Creations which manufactured and sold custom jewelry out of deer and elk antlers. The jewelry was sold in many stores in Newcastle. Darby was an excellent mother and always put others before herself. She was very excited to hear the news of her first grandchild on the way due in October. She was always the type of person who would give the shirt off her back to anyone before she would even consider the needs of herself. She will be remembered for her outstanding generosity, work ethic, and devotion to family. Darby was preceded in death by her grandparents; her mother, Gwen Helms of Newcastle; and her brother, LA Helms of Newcastle. She is survived by her father, Dean Helms of Newcastle, WY; her son, Justin (Cheryl) of Torrington, WY; daughter Jamie (Sam) of Belle Fourche; son, Jesse (Tania) of Chadron, WY; two nephews, Michael and Joseph Helms; and her cousin, Bill Nienabor of Minnesota; as well as dozens of other family and very close friends. Memorial services will be held Monday, June 2, 2014 at 2:00 pm in Crouch Auditorium, Newcastle High School, Bill Haley officiating. Refreshments will follow at the VFW.
